This aerial panorama of Richmond International Raceway, one of the most historic tracks in racing, was taken by James Blakeway during a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series⢠race at Americaâs Premier Short Track. Racing at RIR began in 1946 and today the unique ¾-mile facility remains a favorite among NASCAR fans, drivers and media. Located just outside of Richmond, Virginia, RIR is the focal point of a 1,000 acre multi-purpose facility. Richmond International Raceway, known for holding all of its events âunder the lights,â continues to be Americaâs Premier Short Track by developing a thrilling, memorable and unparalleled guest experience.
